JOURNAL ENTRIES
JOURNAL 3: Describe the best or worst day of your life. GRAMMAR
SILENT READINGEach student has a silent reading novel which they choose themselves. As a class we silent read almost every day for 15-30 minutes, depending on work. Each student has a log to track their reading, and they must complete reading responses two-three times a week. Students also present their books in the form of a Book Talk. It is important to stick with one novel until completion.
READING RESPONSES
DISCUSSIONSTwo to three times a week we will be having One Minute Speak Offs (or discussions). There is a different prompt every time, and students are marked out of 4 for pace, volume, word choice, attentiveness, and language choice/descriptions. Discussion 1: What is your favourite season and why? Discussion 2: What was the scariest thing that has ever happened to you? Describe it. Discussion 3: Describe your perfect day. It can be real or imaginary. Discussion 4: Describe your dream job. It can be anything in the world! ASSIGNMENTS LETTER TO DUNA (BULLYING) After you complete the outline/organizer attached, you may begin the final copy letter (typed or hand-written). It must be double-spaced!
BOOK TALK ASSIGNMENT Your next book talk is December 9th
MYTHS / LEGENDS You are writing a legend on how a natural phenomena came to be (rain, snow, gravity, mountains, meteors, etc.)
PERSONAL NARRATIVE (ASSESSMENT) You must answer the prompt provided. This counts towards your mark and it is also a board assessment. Take your time, review, and give lots of effort and creativity! Prompt: Think of a time when you had to do something that you didn't really want to do. You have to show how doing this thing changed you in some way.
