CLASS OUTLINE
GRAMMAR
SILENT READINGEach student has a silent reading novel which they choose themselves. As a class we silent read almost every day for 15-30 minutes, depending on work. Each student has a log to track their reading, and they must complete reading responses two-three times a week. Students also present their books in the form of a Book Talk. It is important to stick with one novel until completion.
READING RESPONSES
DISCUSSIONSTwo to three times a week we will be having One Minute Speak Offs (or discussions). There is a different prompt every time, and students are marked out of 4 for pace, volume, word choice, attentiveness, and language choice/descriptions. Discussion 1: What is your favourite season and why? Discussion 2: What was the scariest thing that has ever happened to you? Describe it. Discussion 3: Describe your perfect day. It can be real or imaginary. Discussion 4: Describe your dream job. It can be anything in the world! ASSIGNMENTSINTRODUCTION LETTER
